After research and testing, Ventucom deployed a centralized software-based firewall system which integrated seamlessly with Cisco VPN devices and software. Among other features, the solution deploys custom firewall policies to remote PCs and confirms that they possess the latest virus definitions. If any of the security criteria are not met, users are notified and given an opportunity to resolve the offending issue. Access is denied until the remote machine complies with the corporate security policy. Policy updates are easily deployed to remote clients via the centralized management console. This low-cost, relatively unknown solution provides a high level of security often overlooked by companies with remote VPN users. The proposed solution was an overwhelming success because it addressed corporate security requirements while satisfying the company’s business needs.
